Yamaha's 1977 single-VCO monosynth, and a proper sleeper. One oscillator, a gloriously gloopy multimode filter that switches between low, high and band-pass, an LFO that hits volume, pitch, cutoff or the oscillator itself, and a one-octave portamento. No presets, no menus, just knobs and attitude, with fat bass and piercing leads that have turned up everywhere from Depeche Mode to Astral Projection.

FEATURES & PROS:

  • Multimode filter: low, high and band-pass in one switchable circuit, rare on a mono this small.
  • External input: run any sound through that filter and watch it come alive.
  • LFO routing: modulate volume, cutoff, pitch or the VCO for instant movement.
  • CV/Gate: happy to talk to the rest of your vintage or modular rig.
  • Gig-friendly: 37 keys, light and compact enough to actually carry.
