Shipping & Handling Policy

At Inner Pieces we ship vintage and pre-owned hi-fi and studio equipment worldwide. These are often heavy, delicate, high-value, and irreplaceable pieces, so we pack and dispatch every order with considerable care. Please read this policy together with our Returns & Refunds Policy, particularly if you are ordering from outside South Africa, as international returns are costly and we want you to buy with full confidence.

1. How shipping is calculated

Shipping is calculated live at checkout based on the item's actual weight, dimensions, and your delivery address. You will see the exact shipping cost before you pay, with no estimated or hidden charges added afterwards. We use established courier partners through our shipping platforms (BobGo for domestic South African deliveries and Fedex, DHL and UPS via Tunl for international), so the rate you are quoted is the real, current rate for your parcel.

2. Handling and packing

Every item is tested (where applicable), carefully cleaned where appropriate, and professionally packed before dispatch. Larger or more fragile pieces (such as turntables, valve amplifiers, speakers, and consoles) may require custom packaging or crating to travel safely, and we would rather take a little longer to pack an item properly than risk it in transit.

Please allow a handling and preparation time of 1 to 3 business days before your order is dispatched, in addition to the courier's transit time. For particularly large or delicate items requiring custom crating, we will be in touch with an expected timeline.

3. Dispatch and payment

As we accept payment by manual EFT, orders are only prepared for dispatch once payment has cleared and reflected in our account. Handling time begins from the date payment is confirmed, not the date the order is placed. We will keep you updated throughout.

4. Domestic shipping (South Africa)

Domestic orders are sent via tracked courier through BobGo. You will receive tracking details once your order is dispatched. Typical transit times are 1 to 3 business days to major centers, with outlying and rural areas sometimes taking a little longer.

Given the value of our equipment, deliveries usually require a signature on receipt. Please ensure someone is available at the delivery address to receive and inspect the parcel.

5. International shipping

We ship internationally through Tunl on a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) basis. This is an important benefit for you as the buyer:

All applicable duties, import taxes, and customs charges are calculated and paid upfront at checkout. There is nothing further to pay when your order is delivered. The total you see at checkout is the total cost of getting the item to your door, with no surprise fees, no customs invoices, and no parcels held to ransom on arrival. This also means your order clears customs faster.

Please note:

  • International transit times vary by destination and typically range from 3 to 10 business days once dispatched, though customs processing in your country can occasionally add to this.
  • All international shipments are tracked, and we recommend signature on delivery for high-value items.
  • While duties and taxes are prepaid, please make sure your delivery details are correct and that you are permitted to import the item into your country. Any local restrictions on importing electrical or vintage goods are the buyer's responsibility to check before ordering.

6. Insurance and risk in transit

We take great care to pack every item securely, and shipments are sent with tracking. For high-value pieces we strongly recommend, and may include, transit insurance; if you would like your order insured for its full value, please contact us before or shortly after ordering so we can arrange it.

If your item arrives damaged, please follow the steps in our Returns & Refunds Policy: inspect the parcel on arrival, report transit damage to us within 48 hours with photographs of both the item and the packaging, and keep all packaging, as the courier usually requires it to process a claim.

7. Delivery details and failed deliveries

Please double-check your shipping address and contact details at checkout. We are not able to reroute a parcel once it has been collected by the courier, and we cannot be held responsible for delays or losses caused by an incorrect or incomplete address.

If a delivery fails because no one was available to receive it, or because the courier was unable to access the address, any re-delivery or storage charges levied by the courier may be passed on to you.

8. Collection

Local collection by arrangement may be available for certain items, particularly very large or heavy pieces. Please contact us before ordering if you would prefer to collect or arrange your own specialist transport.

9. Questions before you order

Because shipping and any return of this kind of equipment can be significant, especially internationally, we are always happy to answer questions about packing, transit, timelines, or suitability before you buy. Please reach out to us at [your email].

Transit times are estimates provided by our courier partners and are not guaranteed. Circumstances outside our control (customs, weather, courier delays) may occasionally affect delivery.
