The VP-70 is one of those rare boxes that does something genuinely odd: it takes a voice in, tracks its pitch, and lets you process, harmonise and re-pitch it like a synth. Part vocoder cousin, part pitch-to-MIDI brain, it was built for singers who wanted to play synths with their throat and producers chasing weird vocal textures. They do not surface often, least of all this far south.

FEATURES & PROS:

  • Voice processor: pitch tracking and re-pitching of a live vocal.
  • MIDI brain: turn a sung melody into MIDI to drive other synths.
  • Harmony: stack processed voices for choir and robot effects.
  • Rarity: a genuinely uncommon piece of 80s Roland exotica.
