The Victor/JVC SEA-80 is one of the prettiest pieces of vintage hi-fi you can put in a rack: a 10-band-per-channel stereo graphic equalizer from 1979 with a built-in, glowing fluorescent spectrum analyzer right in the middle. Slide the faders to tune your room or your taste, watch the response light up in real time, and use the onboard pink-noise generator and measurement mic input to actually dial your system in properly. It is from the golden era of Japanese audio, so the build is gorgeous and the sliders feel wonderful. As much a centrepiece as a tool, this thing looks incredible lit up in a stereo stack.

FEATURES & PROS:

  • 10-Band Stereo EQ: Independent left and right graphic control across the spectrum.
  • Spectrum Analyzer: A gorgeous fluorescent display showing your frequency response live.
  • Pink Noise + Mic: Built-in generator and mic input for proper acoustic room tuning.
  • Golden-Era Build: Beautiful 1979 Japanese construction with smooth faders.
  • Display Modes: Switch the analyzer between left, right and combined channels.
  • Showpiece Looks: Lit up in a rack, it is an absolute centrepiece.
